[Review] IOU by Kristy Marie

Title: IOU

Author: Kristy Marie
Publication Date: April 29, 2020

It’s official.
I, Ainsley James, am crazy.
Desperate and crazy.
It’s the only explanation as to why I’m nauseous, standing outside Maverick Lexington’s door.
I mean, it’s possible the stories about his deck of playing cards—with the words IOU scrawled across the back—are just rumors of the ruthless quid pro quo deals he barters.
But the flutters in my stomach know better.
Maverick is as cold as they come.
But, I need one of those cards.
I NEED to owe Maverick Lexington a favor…
Whatever the terms, I’m willing to pay.
Because, at this point, I have nothing left to lose.

This book was just honestly pure greatness! I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from it, but I’m glad I gave it a go. Maverick is this super broody, mysterious guy whose reputation precedes him all around campus. He relies on those rumours to keep people coming. But what he doesn’t expect is hurricane Ainsley. She’s been turned away from everywhere after an incident involving fire and her last resort is asking for a favour. I loved the endless banter between the two and I honestly wasn’t sure where the story was headed and I was surprised by it! Ainsley was a total hoot and her relationship with Maverick was so much fun. Oh, and the chemistry! You’ll enjoy this romance if you love things like:

-frenemies/roommates tropes
-friendly firefighters
-endless banter and bickering
-late night trivia
-poker references
-infinite amounts of IOUs
-smart-mouthed heroines with a healthy love for sea lions
