Title: The Boyfriend Effect
Author: Kendall Ryan
Publication Date: October 13, 2020
I’m not boyfriend material.
If a trail of broken hearts and a piss-poor record of failed relationships have taught me anything, it’s this. My buddies are happy to give me shit about my latest breakup from here to next Sunday. Thanks, but I’d rather have a root canal.
And a vasectomy.
At the same time.
Relief comes in an unlikely package—the gorgeous and feisty Maren. She just so happens to be my best friend’s sister, so that’s not awkward at all.
But I’m a man on a mission, and Maren is down to teach me all the ways I’ve been failing as a boyfriend. Apparently, there are many. And it’s all very informative—until I start to catch feelings.
Now it’s not just my reputation on the line, but my heart too.
This is a classic brother’s best friend romance where Maren and Hayes both think their feelings are one-sided. It’s a very light romance, but it totally has a few steamy moments (I mean…he co-owns a sexy toy business). There was a lot going on at some points and I wish the plot focused on one thing, but I did enjoy that he was so invested in helping her save her job. I kind of wish it took advantage of the sexy toy business a bit more because there is so much opportunity for STEAM. I also did struggle with the writing in this story as well. There isn’t really a climax or big pivotal moment so it did feel like a really easy HEA at the end, but if you are looking for a quick, easy romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this one is for you. I will continue the series because there was a set up for the next book, so we’ll see if I enjoy that one more. Check this one out if you enjoy things like:
-brothers best friend
-cute romance subplots
