Title: Fumbled (Playbook #2)
Author: Alexa Martin
Publication Date: April 23, 2019
A second chance doesn’t guarantee a touchdown in this new contemporary romance from the author of Intercepted.
Single-mother Poppy Patterson moved across the country when she was sixteen and pregnant to find a new normal. After years of hard work, she’s built a life she loves. It may include a job at a nightclub, weekend soccer games, and more stretch marks than she anticipated, but it’s all hers, and nobody can take that away. Well, except for one person.
TK Moore, the starting wide receiver for the Denver Mustangs, dreamt his entire life about being in the NFL. His world is football, parties, and women. Maybe at one point he thought his future would play out with his high school sweetheart by his side, but Poppy is long gone and he’s moved on.
When Poppy and TK cross paths in the most unlikely of places, emotions they’ve suppressed for years come rushing back. But with all the secrets they never told each other lying between them, they’ll need more than a dating playbook to help them navigate their relationship. Review:
After reading Intercepted last year, I knew I needed more from Alexa Martin. She definitely does not disappoint with Poppy and TK’s story. This was a second chance romance, but the stakes are higher.
It definitely had the same charm as the last book, but this one definitely had some serious themes in it as well. Of course there was also a ton of drama as well, because the football wives made their return in full force!
Poppy left town when she became pregnant as a teenager after being rejected by her parents and TK. She raised her son on her own and works whatever job she can to give him a great life. Until she literally runs into TK, her ex turned NFL star and also the father of her child. Everything comes rushing back and she does everything she can to try and avoid telling him the truth and fall for him all over again. She’s a total spitfire and I love that she says whatever is on her mind. Poppy definitely does not hold back and fights for what she believes in, including not letting her son play football because of very real risks.
I think I have a love/hate relationship with TK. He was so hot and cold throughout the book and I didn’t really understand him until the end. Some of the things he did just made me shake the book in my hands, but he was also super charming and I respected that he knew Poppy could handle herself. He never stepped in to play the hero for her and it was refreshing.
Also, can I just say how much I loved seeing Brynn again? She is such an amazing secondary character and I’m so glad she’s going to be getting her own book! I also really loved Poppy’s football wife friends as well because they kept her grounded and/or intoxicated when she needed it.
Fumbled deals with some heavy issues such as football injuries, but it’s balanced with light-hearted moments as well. This definitely had the same spark as the last book, but I would say this one is more angsty for sure. If you love sport romance, definitely give this series a shot!
