Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that features highly anticipated book releases.
Title: Gunslinger Girl
Author: Lyndsay Ely
Publisher: Hachette Book Group
Publication Date: January 2, 2018
Seventeen-year-old Serendipity “Pity” Jones inherited two things from her mother: a pair of six shooters and perfect aim. She’s been offered a life of fame and fortune in Cessation, a glittering city where lawlessness is a way of life. But the price she pays for her freedom may be too great….
In this extraordinary debut from Lyndsay Ely, the West is once again wild after a Second Civil War fractures the U.S. into a broken, dangerous land. Pity’s struggle against the dark and twisted underbelly of a corrupt city will haunt you long after the final bullet is shot.
Why am I excited?
First of all, the MC is pitched as a cross between Katniss Everdeen and Annie Oakley. That combination sounds amazing, plus it’s also a dystopian novel set in the WILD WEST. Every time I hear about Western anything, I’ve never pictured the girl with the gun, so I’m glad to see that this book is breaking the stereotype. Also, that cover is amazing and it kind of looks like a modern twist on one of those wanted posted you see in old Western movies. I’m hoping there will be lots of those classic standoffs, gunfights, and good ol’ bar brawls. I also can’t get over the MC’s name either: Serendipity “Pity” Jones sounds so completely awesome. January needs to hurry on up so I can dive in to this beauty!
