Title: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
Author: Becky Albertalli
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Publication Date: April 7, 2015
Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.
Why did I get it?
I seriously blame social media for this purchase (and my own lack of self-control) because I’ve literally seen it advertised EVERYWHERE. Also, it kept staring me down at the bookstore every time I went….so yeah, there’s that. I told myself that I needed to branch out and explore new genres rather than sticking to the same old one and I thought I’d give contemporary a try. It’s also a diverse book which is super exciting because it deals with homosexuality.
Why haven’t I read it yet?
Uh……TBR= Mount Everest? Also, I kind of feel like this one’s a mood read. I don’t usually follow my emotions when I pick my next read, but I can tell that this one will probably be sappy as hell considering it deals with a homosexual protagonist and bullying. It’s actually being made into a movie, though, so I should probably get on that STAT. Why is everything suddenly becoming a movie now? I seem to have a knack for purchasing every book EVER that is being made into a movie or TV show. Anyway, this book looks super cute and I can’t wait to get to it!
